INHALATION SEDATION (Happy Gas)
This is a mixture of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen or a light anaesthetic agent. A mask goes over your nose or you may be given Pentrox where you inhale through a tube (green whistle).
This certainly helps to remove the fear of dental procedures. It makes you feel very relaxed and also very sleepy. You still remain semi-conscious, but you forget about the treatment afterwards.
It is a little like a light general anaesthetic and t works well on the very nervous clients. It is very effective on clients who have a gag reflex.
Children find they can “go away with the fairies” while their dental treatment is carried out.
Please call the practice to enquire about Happy Gas.
This can be arranged and is done at the local Buderim Private Hospital. Please call the practice to enquire about having a General Anaesthetic.
WILL I STILL NEED AN INJECTION IN THE MOUTH?
Yes, our aim is to provide pain free treatment and local anaesthetic is needed. However, while you are under gas/air, you will not be afraid of the injections and will not recall us administering this to you later.
CAN ANYONE HAVE A GAS/AIR?
It is a very safe technique for most patients. We will need to check your medical history /medications thoroughly to see if you are a suitable candidate for inhalation sedation. Obviously, if you feel unwell before the appointment, please notify your doctor.
